FAQs

What kind of therapy is this?

I provide psychoanalytic psychotherapy. This means we look at what is working beneath the surface to drive some of your choices and decisions, and through this we try to access your unconscious mind. An idea central to psychoanalysis is that we can have two or more feelings at once. I use this approach in individual work and also come to couples work with this lens, and add on to it the co-created dynamic between partners in the couple. Within our psychotherapeutic relationship, I look at the ways in which we interact and use this to understand how the meaningful relationships in your life have helped to shape who you are in the world.

I am also trained in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples. This is a modality which works to connect to the emotions underneath the behaviors within a couple, and seeks to restore connection through repairing past hurts and creating a new emotional experience within the couple.

How often does therapy occur?

Therapy works best when held once or twice a week. It’s like going to the gym, it needs to happen regularly to make a difference in how you feel. Therapy can be short term or long term, depending on you and what you are navigating in your life. Sessions are 45 minutes for individuals and 55 minutes for couples.

Do you take insurance?

While I am not on any panels directly, I will work with you on your out of network reimbursement and submit out of network reimbursements directly to your insurance on your behalf. Most plans will cover 60-80 percent of your fees, and many plans will reimburse at 100 percent after your out of network deductible is met. Many people have out of network benefits that go unclaimed.

How much do you charge?

My rates are commensurate to my experience and training. We will discuss rates in our first session together and make sure we choose a rate that is agreeable to us both. You can also let me know any special concerns or considerations you may have.

When is payment due?

Payment is due at the end of each session.

What if I need to cancel?

Cancellations require no less than 48 hour notice, otherwise you will be charge for the missed session.
